Prescriptions

All routine repeat prescriptions have to be authorised by the GP.

Routine requests for prescriptions can be made in 4 ways:

  • through Online Services
  • completing the white, right hand side of your prescription ticking the items you require
  • completing a request form available at our reception
  • writing (using the postal service or through the surgery letter box)

Please note we require at least 48 hours notice for all choices. If you would like your prescription delivered to either your home or chemist then please provide a stamp-addressed envelope.

Greystones Medical Centre use Electronic Prescriptions so if you would like us to send your prescription electronically to a pharmacy of your choice, please contact your local pharmacy or ask at Reception to set up this option.

Telephone requests for prescriptions are only available to housebound patients.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer savings for people who need extensive medication.

NHS charges

From 1 April 2017, the charges are:
